Early morning walk to Santa Maria Della Salute.
Early morning walk to Santa Maria Della Salute.
This was my second last morning in Venice and I wanted to see the streets before they become crowded with tourists - the cold winds from the lagoon made it difficult to draw this piece as my hands began to stiffen - it was a beautiful location and amazing architecture- so I pushed through the pain to capture the moment but this work contains some of the cold I was feeling and has a slightly rushed feel compare to the other work from Venice due to the weather- this serves to make this even more rare as work of art.
Santa Maria della Salute was built in the 17th century as a vow to the Virgin Mary, following the devastating plague of 1630, which killed a large portion of Venice's population. The city’s leaders promised to build a grand church in her honor if the plague was eradicated. The church is famous for its magnificent baroque architecture, designed by Baldassare Longhena, and its iconic dome that dominates the Venetian skyline. It is also renowned for its stunning interior, with artworks by Titian and Tintoretto, as well as its symbolic connection to Venice's resilience and faith.
